Our first experience of Green Design Homes was 5 years ago, when we met with builder & director Peter Green. It was then that he showed us through several homes the company had constructed. We were blown away with the quality of the workmanship. Having previously built 3 times, we knew exactly what we wanted and that was a home built by GDH.
The project brief was a traditional style home. Having visited numerous display homes, we had a collection of ideas we dearly wanted to incorporate in our next home, including the ornate fireplace and mantel piece.
We presented our ideas to the GDH team and through careful planning, design and construction they made these a reality. Nothing was ever a drama.
The colour scheme originally envisaged was somewhat different, cream walls, gold trims etc. It quickly changed, when I spotted the large silver framed mirror that now hangs in the Master Bedroom. Naturally, the rest of the house had to match my mirror, resulting in a black, white and silver theme, with lovingly restored provincial furniture throughout, enhancing the uniqueness of our home.
The great thing about the design/layout of this house is that there are no wasted areas – no formal lounge room that no one sits in or a massive family room that only my cats occupy, as they did in our previous home.
My favourite feature of my energy efficient home, is the passive heating and cooling, achieved with the installation of quality insulation and double glazed windows. When it is 42 degrees outside, it’s a comfortable 23 degrees inside, without the use of the air conditioner*.
True bliss. If I were ever to build again, it would be with Green Design Homes.
